Suicide After Dementia Diagnosis
People who have received a dementia diagnosis within the last three months are at increased risk for suicide. A study in England compared people diagnosed with dementia and those without dementia. The suicide the risk within 90 days is nearly seven times higher for people who are diagnosed before age 65. Among people diagnosed with any neurologic disorder, suicide deaths are more common. Antidepressants During Pregnancy Not Linked to Behavior Issues in Children
In a study of 145,000 women and their children followed for 14 years, antidepressant use during pregnancy was not associated with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, behavioral disorders, or developmental disabilities. Past studies have found links between antidepressant use and developmental concerns, but some of the findings have been clouded by extenuating factors. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists meets regularly to update guidance on medications during pregnancy and will take the new information from this study into account. France’s Eighth Wave of COVID
COVID cases in France are on the rise, heralding its eighth wave of the virus. New daily cases (45,631) are at their highest there since August 2. Also, overall hospitalization figures (15,166) are at their highest in France since the end of August. (Source: Reuters, 10.4.22)
