New Vaccine Study

Pfizer is studying a new COVID vaccine designed to match Omicron, The study is enrolling 1400 healthy adults to test the updated immunization. The study will be assessing safety and immune response. Two shots, either two new, or one existing and one new, will be given to 600 participants who have received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine already. One shot, either the new or the existing, will be given to 600 participants who received three doses of Pfizer vaccine already. Some unvaccinated volunteers will receive three doses of the new. More from the AP.

Blood Clots Decline with Omicron

Early in the pandemic, people developed clots in the legs, lungs, and brain with COVID. Anecdotally, doctors are seeing fewer leg and lung clots in recent months. Patients in critical care still have a high risk of clotting. More study will be needed to know whether the Omicron variant poses less of a clot risk. Cough, fatigue, congestion, and runny nose are the most common symptoms of Omicron COVID. More in MedPage Today,

More Type 1 Diabetes with COVID

A study from a San Diego children's hospital shows a 57% increase in new diagnoses of type one diabetes between March 2020 and March 2021. Also, more children came to the hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis, a potentially deadly complication. With type 1 diabetes, the immune system attacks the pancreas, which stops producing insulin. More Exercise, Fewer Deaths

Adults over 40 should add 10 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise to their normal routines. An analysis shows more than 110,000 deaths could be prevented each year. Researchers used surveys to look at the activity levels and death rates for 5,000 people 40 to 85 through the end of 2015. The researchers note that longer exercise could lead to even more lives saved. More from CNN.
