Reduced Risk of Long COVID

Several studies in the past six months analyzed by the U.K. Health Security Agency have shown vaccinated people have a 50% lower risk of long COVID compared to those who are unvaccinated. How people develop long COVID is still under investigation. Also, defining long COVID has been a challenge. Because the Omicron wave was so recent, long COVID after infection with this particular version of coronavirus has not yet been studied. More from NPR.

Rare Strokes After Vaccination

Strokes were a rare adverse event after COVID vaccination, according to a study from Mexico. Researchers looked at how many strokes per million vaccine doses occurred within 30 days of immunization. Six different vaccines were among the 80-million doses given. They found 56 strokes. The most common risk factors were high blood pressure and diabetes. More in Healio.

Moderate Coffee Is Heart-Friendly

Drinking two to three cups of coffee a day was associated with a lower risk of new or worsening heart disease. This finding comes from an analysis of a U.K. database of 500,000 people who were followed over 10 years. Researchers looked at coffee consumption and various cardiac maladies. People who drank two to three cups a day had a 10 to 15 percent lower risk of developing coronary heart disease, heart failure, a heart rhythm problem, or dying for any reason.
