Monkeypox in 7 States
Nine cases of monkeypox have been reported in seven states: Massachusetts, Florida, Utah, Washington, California, Virginia, and New York. Some individuals did not have a history of international travel. Many cases, but not all, have been men who have sex with men. In Europe there have been 200 confirmed cases and 100 more suspected. Outbreaks have been reported in 20 countries where the viral infection is not endemic. Symptoms include fever and a bumpy rash. More from Reuters.
Summer Skin Care
With Memorial Day comes summer! Reduce your risk of skin cancer.
Limit your time in the sun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Wear broad-brimmed hats, sleeves, pants, and sunglasses to cover exposed skin.
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF of 15 or higher, and reapply every two hours.
Ancient DNA
Scientists have sequenced the genome of a man who died after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in Pompeii. The lava and other materials protected the DNA from environmental degradation. The information adds to the understanding of the genetic diversity of the human population 2,000 years ago. More from CNN.
